Internet Security Tools™
|
InternetSecurityTools.com is in the process of being expanded with great additional material and therefore will have limited content until October 2008. When we return with full content and a new look, we will feature a blend of practical internet security tips and a wide range of specialized internet security products. We will focus primarily on free security tools but will also include commercial products as well.
Protecting your computer or computer network from the evils lurking in cyberspace is an ever changing task. The basic protection needed is what we call the triangle of protection made up of a firewall, antivirus software and antispyware. Our companion sites have detailed information about free and paid products of this type. This site will go beyond this "triangle of protection" and include tools that can help you to analyze your level of protection, find security holes and trace the source of attempted intrusions into your system or network. These tools will help you determine if you are as safe as possible. There are also a number of great online tests that can help you to get a handle on your actual level of security.
A special focus will be detailed information about using floppy disks, CDs and USB thumb drives to help recover from catastrophic system events such as might occur with a major virus infection. Soon we will be adding information about the amazing ability to put a live Linux or Windows installation on these portable devices and how this can allow you to recover data from a totally unbootable system. With USB thumb drives now quite inexpensive even at 8GB, the possibilities for a wide range of security tools possible on a single device are even broader! This type of information is scattered around the internet but we will bring it all together and devote a large portion of our site to this expanding area of internet security. We will include an opportunity for you to share with our readers how you have used removable USB drives as part of your own security program.
I have found that a thumb drive loaded with freeware makes a great and inexpensive gift for the budding security expert and have given them to many of my "computer geek" friends.
